Description

The was assembled and welded directly over the cut surface and there was a concern about the created by the cutting. The hardness of the "as cut" surface, using Oxygen Plasma Cut Shielded by Compressed Air, without preheating, showed martensitic regions and a microestructural gradient in a distance about 0.5 mm.

Location of the microhardness tests. The three measurements at the plate base metal showed average hardness of 204 HV 50g. The three measurements of the martensitic structure at the surface showed average 454HV 50g. The intercritical region showed average 324 HV 50g.
