Prior Beta Grain Size

The size of the grains as they existed in the high-temperature beta phase of titanium, zirconium, or certain other alloys, which can remain visible as a boundary network after the material has transformed to a lower-temperature microstructure on cooling. It is analogous to prior austenite grain size in steels and is an important quantity in the metallurgical evaluation of these alloys.
