The fracture occurred associated to the smaller section of the socket, thickness of 13 mm, at the corner of the radio, that is a stress concentration raiser.

This is the view of the internal surface of the cylinder, presenting regions of localized thinning in this surface that was in contact with (treated) cooling water. The external side of the cylinder was painted.

It is possible to see that there is a product at the surface and the material presents intergranular fracture, suggesting there was a hydrogen embrittlement effect.
