Description

A section of this steam drum was cut out of the vessel during maintenance because there were deep in the drum wall, detected in regions of surface weld repairs. The metallurgical analysis indicated that the cracks started from the internal drum surface, and propagated with transgranular branching morphology in the perlitic . The morphology of the cracks is typical of a (SCC) mechanism.
