Delta Phase

An intermetallic phase that can form in certain nickel-based superalloys and stainless steels after prolonged high-temperature exposure, distinct from the sigma phase but similarly capable of depleting the surrounding matrix of alloying elements and reducing toughness. Its presence is an important consideration when evaluating components that have seen extended high-temperature service.
