Centerline Segregation
The concentration of alloying elements or impurities along the central plane or axis of a solidified or continuously cast product, occurring where the last liquid to solidify — enriched in rejected solute — collects at the center. It can leave the centerline region weaker or more -susceptible than the rest of the cross-section.
