Interdendritic Segregation

The uneven distribution of alloying elements or impurities that develops between the dendrite arms of a solidifying casting or weld, as the last liquid to solidify becomes enriched in elements rejected by the earlier-forming solid. It can leave the interdendritic regions locally weaker or more susceptible to cracking and corrosion than the rest of the structure.
