The crack starts exactly at the margin of the weld and propagates in the pipe longitudinal direction, in a straight line until it reaches the condition of overloading and through wall final rupture, with strong plastic deformation as can be seen around the crack.

Micrography of the plate section, close to the surface that suffered the impact. The copper alloy melted and created a yellow-orange deposit. The plate material presented a strong plastic deformation, aligning the grains and strain hardening the microstructure.
