M - CMn SteelP - Seamless PipeAp - StructureCd - Qualified
Cm - NItal Etched MacroDf - Welded Joint
Micrographic detail of the weld metal with islands of a coarse ferritic structure, degradated (recristalized) from an acicular morphology during to the long heat treatment cycle in high temperature. The post welding heat treatment (PWHT) was conducted during 12 hours at 640°C.

M - CMn SteelP - Seamless PipeAp - StructureCd - Qualified
Cm - Nital Etched Micrography by OMDf - Base Metal
Micrography of the pipe base metal, in a longitudinal section. The ferritic structure is refined and it is possible to identify a small variation in the ferritic grain size, that is promoting the slight banding effect.

M - CMn SteelP - Seamless PipeAp - StructureCd - Qualified
Cm - Nital Etched Micrography by OMDf - Base Metal
Micrographic detail of the very refined ferritic structure of the base metal, in the longitudinal section, indicating that the material was heat treated, since no banding is not detectable at this magnification.

Micrographic detail of the welded joint, at the root, presenting hot cracks. The presence of these defects were responsible for reducing the material strenght (rupturing in lower strenght than the requirements) and ductility (cracking in bending tests).

The welded joint of the flat position is shown from the root side. It is possible to see that the use of the backing generated the possibility for melting the base metal out of the groove, without detection of this condition during welding, responsible for creating defects and avoiding the WPS qualification.
