White Cast Iron

A cast iron in which the carbon is present almost entirely as cementite rather than as free graphite, giving the fracture surface its characteristic light color and the material very high hardness and wear resistance but low ductility and toughness. It contrasts with gray and ductile cast irons, in which most of the carbon is present as graphite.
