Condition
Thermal Fatigue
A mechanism in which repeated heating and cooling cycles generate cyclic stresses — through thermal expansion and contraction, often constrained by the surrounding — that eventually initiate and grow , without requiring any externally applied mechanical load. It is a common failure mechanism in components that experience frequent temperature swings in service.
