Corrosion
Stress Corrosion Cracking
Also known as: SCC
A form of that results from the combined action of a sustained tensile stress and a specific corrosive environment, occurring at stress levels well below what the material could otherwise withstand and often with little visible surface . It is a particularly dangerous failure mode because a component can appear largely intact until sudden, brittle-like occurs.
