Sour Service

Service in an environment containing hydrogen sulfide, most often defined by a recognized industry standard for oil and gas equipment, where materials must be selected and qualified to resist sulfide stress cracking and related forms of hydrogen damage. It is a major materials-selection consideration for components in wells, pipelines, and processing equipment handling sour hydrocarbons.
