Corrosion
Intergranular Corrosion
A mechanism that attacks preferentially along grain boundaries, leaving the grain interiors relatively unattacked, usually because the boundary region has a different composition — often due to precipitation such as carbides — that makes it more susceptible to the environment. Sensitized are a classic example of a material susceptible to this mechanism.
