Ferrite with Aligned Second Phase

A weld-metal microstructural constituent consisting of ferrite grains with a second phase — typically carbide or austenite — aligned along the ferrite grain boundaries in a preferred direction, one of the classifications used to describe as-deposited weld metal microstructure. Its presence and amount are assessed when correlating a weld's microstructure with its toughness.
