Corrosion
Crevice Corrosion
A mechanism that occurs within a narrow, shielded gap — such as under a gasket or washer, or at a poorly fitted joint — where stagnant conditions let the local chemistry become more aggressive than in the surrounding bulk environment. It is a common cause of unexpected, hard-to-inspect attack in and other alloys that rely on a passive surface film.
