Carbide Precipitation
The formation of carbide particles from a metal's solid solution, typically triggered by cooling or by exposure to an intermediate temperature range where carbon and carbide-forming elements are no longer fully soluble in the matrix. Where it occurs preferentially at grain boundaries, it can deplete the surrounding matrix of alloying elements and reduce resistance or toughness.
