Carbide Coalescence
The gradual merging and coarsening of fine, dispersed carbide particles into fewer, larger particles during prolonged exposure to elevated temperature, driven by the material's tendency to reduce its total internal interface area. It is a useful indicator, visible under the microscope, of how much high-temperature service or overheating a component has experienced.
